NOAA provided the Virginia Zoological Society with $70,000 in funding to design a living shoreline near the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk. Before installing the living shoreline, riprap and rubble was removed from 500 feet of shoreline. Then, the area of shoreline was backfilled and regraded to a natural slope. Finally, local volunteers helped to plant native vegetation on that area of shoreline.
The funding agencies and partners for this project include the Virginia Zoological Society and NOAA.
