Little St. Simon Island is a private barrier island located on Georgia's coast. This project removed a failing bulkhead. An oyster revetment was constructed in its place with native marsh grasses planted surrounding it. Since construction there has already been evidence of an increase in species richness around the living shoreline. This project was completed in June of 2013.
The funding agencies and partners for this project include University of Georgia Marine Extension Service, Georgia Department of Natural Resources: Coastal Resources Division, Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve, The Nature Conservancy, Hoffman Environmental Services, and Coastal Civil Engineering.
