Naval Support Activity, Panama City

Description

Naval Support Activity, is along St. Andrews Bay in Panama City, Florida. This project involved 22,000 saltmarsh grass plantings and the construction of 200 loose oyster reefs along three segments of shoreline that were 800, 900, and 1400ft long. The oyster reef breakwaters provided the saltmarsh grass with some protection against incoming wave energy, which will helped their roots to take hold. In addition to the protection to the marsh grass, it provided new oyster and fish habitat, which is beneficial to the surrounding ecosystem and water quality.
