The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) seeks to retain a New Jersey-based ecological consultant who will collaborate with our Washington, D.C.-based Climate and Wildlife Safeguards Team to articulate and advance ecological solutions to New Jersey coastal community hazards.  Consultant will represent NWF in collaborative technical team meetings and site visits with coastal NJ municipalities engaged in a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation-funded partnership to reduce natural hazard risks to communities in ways that improve habitat.In cooperation with NWF staff and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJ DEP),  the consultant will provide technical input and project design feedback to participating municipalities, as well as proposing ecological resilience solutions to select municipalities engaged in climate vulnerability assessments with technical partners, while simultaneously contributing content to online technical guidance on the same topic, in cooperation with NWF, NJ DEP, and technical partners. Approximately 50% of the time will be allocated to providing technical assistance to coastal NJ municipalities in consultation with NWF, NJ DEP and other technical partners. This will include project site visits, occasional meetings, and regular conference calls convened by NJ DEP and technical partners, to help identify and advance ecological solutions to natural hazards that also yield habitat benefits, at the municipal level.The other 50% will entail contributing to written technical guidance regarding the use of ecological practices to achieve greater coastal community resilience, reducing the risk of climate change and natural hazards, while improving fish & wildlife habitat. We are currently in the process of identifying and selecting high priority ecological solutions to coastal hazards that: 1. Reduce natural hazard risks, 2. Bring positive habitat benefits, and 3. Are actionable at the community level.Consultant must have a proven track record of strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, knowledge of and professional experience working in New Jersey coastal ecosystems and communities , and relevant ecological restoration practice.  S/he must also demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills on the topic of coastal resilience and wildlife conservation issues.Must be willing and able to travel regularly within New Jersey to coastal communities, as needed.  Year-round travel to coastal communities will require a reliable vehicle.The exact scope of work is subject to change. Term: February 1, 2016 – February 28 2017Interested parties should submit a bid proposal, not to exceed $50,000, detailing qualifications and work samples to Dr. Stacy Small-Lorenz at This email address is being protected from spambots.
