Hi folks - got this info and wanted to help get the word out.  Best regards, SuzanneFunding OpportunityThe purpose of this message is to request your assistance in soliciting proposals from State Departments of Transportation, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, Federal Land Management Agencies, and Tribes for a research funding opportunity to partner with us in pilot assessments of green infrastructure techniques for protecting coastal highways to climate change impacts of sea level rise and storm surge.  Coastal green infrastructure includes dunes, wetlands, living shorelines, oyster reefs, beaches, and artificial reefs.  These features can protect coastal transportation infrastructure from the brunt of storm surges and open water waves.  This project is part of the Administrator's Strategic Initiatives research program.  Please see attached for the solicitation and additional information which will be posted on FHWA's website< www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/climate_cha...nd_current_research/ > shortly. The focus of this project is on coastal areas (including Great Lakes).  Eligible projects are those that analyze the feasibility of a green infrastructure solution to protect a coastal roadway section or bridge.  Eligible expenses include staff or contractor hours to conduct the analysis and document the results.  It is anticipated that 2 to 4 applied research projects (pilots) will be selected and funded at approximately $50,000 to $100,000 each, with a matching requirement of at least a 20% non-federal share[1], 50% non-federal share preferred.  In-kind contributions may count as match. Proposals are due to Division offices on May 25, 2016  and to This email address is being protected from spambots. More information of FHWA climate change resilience efforts is available on the FHWA Climate Change Adaptation Webpage< www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/climate_change/adaptation/ >. [1] Federal land management agencies are not required to provide a non-federal share, but are encouraged to use other sources of funding as match.
